I remember that day as if it was yesterday. The pain enters my mind and my heart on a daily basis even though it happened over four years ago. My soon-to-be ex-wife and I sat down with our five children as if it was a regular evening of prayers, but we had a different agenda. I can literally still feel the words, "Your mom and I are getting divorced," leave my lips. As soon as I spoke those words my life changed forever. The tears in our eyes and the pain in their hearts at that moment, still haunt my dreams. Ugh, it is painful just to write about it. But, I know that if you are reading this there is a good change that you have experienced something very similar or you are heading down that path. My heart goes out to you and your family. The bad news is that the journey from that unforgettable day to feeling like things were getting back to "normal" was about two years for me. I struggled with the embarrassment of a failed marriage, the fear of where to live, how to make meals for the kids and do their hair. But through all of the craziness and pain, there are three things that helped my family survive divorce. Actually, thrive through it.
